How To Level A Toilet On Tile Floor

Installing a new toilet in your home can be a daunting task for those who are inexperienced with plumbing repairs. Not only does the toilet have to be properly installed, it also needs to be level on the tile floor. If the toilet is not level, it can cause water in the bowl to slosh and make flushing difficult. If you are installing a new toilet or replacing an old one, here is how to level a toilet on tile floor.

Tools and Materials Needed

Before you start, make sure you have all of the tools and materials that you will need:

– Toilet

– Closet bolts

– Nuts and washers

– Tape measure

– Level

– Plumber’s putty

– Adjustable wrench

– Screwdriver

– Tile spacers

– Rags or towels

– Sponge or brush

– Utility knife

– Adhesive caulk

Steps for Leveling a Toilet on Tile Floor

1. Place the toilet on the tile floor where it will be installed. Make sure it is centered and straight. Use a level to check if the toilet is level in both directions. If not, use tile spacers underneath the base of the toilet on one side to raise it slightly until it is even with the other side. Once you have it leveled, mark the position of the closet bolts on both sides of the base of the toilet using a pencil.

2. Remove the toilet from its position on the floor and set it aside. Using a utility knife, cut out two slots in each area where you marked the closet bolts so that they can fit through them when they are installed later.

3. Place plumber’s putty under each closet bolt before inserting them through the slots that were cut out in Step 2. This will help keep them secure and provide additional support for when you place your weight on top of them later during installation.

4. Place your nut and washer onto each closet bolt before inserting them into their respective slots in the tile floor. Make sure they are tight but not too tight as this could cause damage to your tile flooring over time.

5. Position your toilet back into its original position on top of the closet bolts and washers that were installed in Steps 3 & 4 above. Use a level to check if it is still level in both directions before proceeding with installation. Make any necessary adjustments using tile spacers as needed until your toilet is completely level from side to side and front to back once again.

6. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten each nut onto its respective closet bolt until it has been securely fastened into place beneath your tile flooring. Now that your toilet is securely fastened into place on top of its closet bolts, use a sponge or brush to clean up any excess plumber’s putty from around each nut and washer before continuing with installation of your new toilet seat and lid assembly (if purchasing a new one). 7 Finally, use adhesive caulk around all four sides of your newly installed toilet bowl where it meets your tile flooring . This will help to prevent any water from seeping beneath the toilet and onto your tile flooring, which could cause damage over time.

Your newly installed toilet should now be level and secure. Enjoy your new bathroom oasis!
